April Goals

April is going to be a transitional month.  The first 20 days are going to be about getting over this post-move funk I’ve been in lately.  I have REALLY struggled after moving with getting into any kind of rhythm.  I am planning this month as a month where I get back to that hardcore place I was in.  So my goal for the first 20 days:

Repeat my Turbo Pump challenge I gave myself back in October.  I got AWESOME results with this calendar and more than that – I really enjoyed the combo.  I updated the calendar for where I am with fitness now and here it is!  It’s more intense then the original Turbo Pump because the last time I did this it was coming out of the Reset (and 21 days of no exercise).  This time I’m going IN to the reset, so I can do the workouts I just fine with no need to keep it basic.

I am going to do Shakeology daily.   Which I was doing, but I’ve kind of fallen off during the move and as my routine is off in general, I just have been a mess.  Back on this every day at least one shake….two if I need it.  I have a bag in the hole so to speak, so I can have a few extra shakes w/o being off.  Especially since during the reset I definitely will not have a shake daily.

Get on schedule.  Seriously.  I am having a really hard time getting up on time (which is making my exercise and food prep in the morning a mess….) because I’m not going to bed on time.  It’s a horrible circle.  The problem has been that since I’m closer to work I am allowing myself to get up later.  But somehow I am allowing a 30 minute shift in my wake up time to be an hour – hour and a half shift in my go to bedtime.  Right…that math is so wrong.  So I need to just start going to bed no later than 10:30 pm – end of discussion on the days I need to workout before work (which will be all of them since Sunday will be my rest days for the next 3 weeks).

So that’s my 21 day plan to get my life back on track.  I haven’t gained any weight as of my last weigh in, so that’s how I know my move wasn’t completely off track as I usually gain weight by thinking about food.  But I do feel like I am not as in shape as I was – which is worse to me.  I don’t care what the scale says if I feel great.  I don’t feel great.

So then on the 21st, the Ultimate Reset starts.  I’m going to follow that book 100% like I did before.  No excuses. I will add in the walking and the yoga this time…at least I hope I will.  I think I am much better prepared to go into the reset as far as how to prep the food to make the food prep more efficient, so I should have more time to do this.  But if I ever do have to choose – it’s food prep and rest.  One thing about the reset is that last time I got SO much sleep…it was amazing.  I slept like a baby most days and got 8-10 hours a night.  I could go for that again.

The reset takes me into May.  I haven’t decided what exercise program I will pick up post reset yet.  I have about 6 weeks to decide that.  But trust you will be the first to know 🙂  I am doing a “get to goal” challenge with one of my fellow Team Tenacity coaches right now that I’m excited about.  I’m really excited for the challenge because it’s coming at exactly the right time.  Time to shake off this moving funk and really get myself back on the road.  There is no reason I shouldn’t be at my goal by December 31st 🙂

Links and Moving Update

Hey ya’ll!

Finally through the packing and into the unpacking phase of moving.  How we got so much stuff….I can’t figure out.  I have been throwing a lot of stuff away though….new start clean start kind of thing.  That’s why posting is a little slow lately…I just haven’t been really doing much except trying to stay on track, exercise when I can (and where…box jumping is today’s activity, lol), and trying to get this new apartment livable.

So today, I thought I’d share some of my favorite fitness/health links.  Please share some of your favorites in the comments too, I’m always looking for more good resources.

Michi’s Ladder – very good resource if you are trying to start eating clean.  It works pretty easy.  Figure out what tier your foods are in and try to swap out a tier 1 or 2 item for your tier 3-5 items.  It’s not a diet – it is a clean up your eating plan.

Daily Hiit – used to be BodyRock.  I started with this and UFC Trainer on XBOX in January 2011 at 300 lbs.  No, I couldn’t do everything and yes, there are probably better workouts to start off with that would have given me faster results because I was so big and out of shape there was so much I couldn’t do.  But I was SO pumped up and motivated after finding out about BodyRock and so wanting to start that I just jumped in and did what I could do.  This is what happens when you just wake up and decide to go forth and do something on a whim.  Anyway, long story short – I owe a lot to this program because it got me moving and starting the weight loss process.  A lot of the early posts on this blog are breakouts of my BodyRock workouts.

Fleur Meets Fitness – This blog has served as many a motivating moment for me.  Fleur is a Australian girl who lost a ton of weight in a very short amount of time.  It’s motivating for me because it’s a story of what you can do if you really put your money where your mouth is.  You can do pretty much whatever you want to do if you decide it’s your #1 priority.

Truly.Into.Fitness – I just like reading about the lives of people that change their weight.  And apparently aren’t from the US, lol!  Jess is French Canadian and is living the dream – lost the weight and became a personal trainer.  Motivation in leaps and bounds.

Team Beachbody – Great resource if you are doing a Beachbody program for sure.  Also if you just want recipes and a fitness community.  I use the message boards a lot, especially to research a program.  I spent a TON of time on the message board before deciding finally to take the Ultimate Reset and I still check the forum a lot.

Snow Day Announcements

Being from Michigan I still get a kick out of the fact that this little bit of snow means the entire WORLD in the DMV area shuts down!

So I’m going to take this day to catch up on some work that I am behind on from being so busy this week, do a little laundry, do a little packing, and do a little work on my Beachbody business.

Also I wanted to let you guys know that if you sign up for a challenge pack this month, you get (1) this discount on the Shakeology for life (2) a bonus Shakeology shaker cup (3) and me as your coach for one on one support via text/email/Facebook/Instagram – all of these, none of these, whatever you are looking for.  Why a challenge pack?  Because you get the meal plan, the Shakeology, the workout program, and the one on one support for one discounted price.  It’s a good deal and one of my favorite discounts that Beachbody does.  Pile on the current discounts on P90x and the Ultimate Reset this month (both end on the 31st)…and you can really save some money going forward on your healthy journey.  Questions?  Email me at healthyengineer@gmail.com.  I want to help at least 5 people…hopefully more…with their health journey this month.  Do you need a little help and support?  Let’s team up together and work on our goals!

March Madness

Oh yes, it is ON for March peeps.  My birthday is in April.  I already am the smallest I’ve been since I was 17.  I’m ready to hit my birthday looking as smoking hot as I can and as healthy as I can.  So it’s going to be an aggressive month with diet and exercise.

Eating
Clean clean CLEAN is the plan.  Better meal planning because the last few weeks have been meh with all the ongoings.  More vegetables, more fruit, more nuts, more seeds.  Less dairy, less miscellaneous snacks, less dirty junk.  Essentially, I’m going to go back to those favorite Ultimate Reset recipes and those other favorites.  I need more veggies in my life and in March I’m going to find them ALL.  Shakeology every morning for breakfast because I will need the help cutting cravings and that seems to be the only thing that does it for me lately.

Exercise
Les Mills Combat in the mornings – sticking 100% to the schedule.  I shouldn’t have tried it in the middle of this hybrid because I like it WAY too much to go back to the hybrid.  New stuff wins.  Always lol.  Adding in some of these short Fit Girl Army workouts as a warm up or post workout before the cool down burst.  In the evenings I will start taking at least 30 minutes to do something 4 or so days a week.  My new place I’m moving to in March has a gym there, so I may just go there and walk while watching tv (because we don’t have cable and the gym does, ha!).  Or add some heavy lifting in sometimes. I just need to get out of this habit of sitting on my butt for hours every night.  Especially since we are moving to a smaller place – I think this will be my way of giving the hubby some space since we won’t have our separate little domains anymore.

Life
Sleep baby.  I’m going to be in bed by 10pm every night, end of discussion.  Bed by 10 and up at 5:30.  One reason I’m deciding to do Combat in the mornings is that it’s a shorter workout for the most part.  I like that because it means I can sleep in a little longer 🙂  I also am going to really push to get the hubby to participate in my evening workouts a little so it’s time we can spend together along with time we can get fitter together.  I’m going to try to slow down a little bit on the weekends and take some extra time (like today – I’m taking a half day at work) to rest and rejuvenate.  I’ve been a busy madwoman lately and it’s starting to catch up to me.  I don’t need to do that.

Are you in for a hardcore March?  I’m on a mission this month – not just to improve my health and fitness – but to help at LEAST 5 people do the same.  If you are ready to be one of those 5 people who is taking on a similar challenge and would like me to coach you please send me an email healthyengineer@gmail.com.  There are some fantastic challenge pack deals to help you get started PLUS this is the last month for the chocolate and greenberry Shakeology at the current price.  If you don’t lock in Home Direct now, the price is going up $10/month starting in April.  You can cancel whenever you want if you don’t like Shakeology, and there is a 30 day empty bag refund policy, but if you have been thinking of getting started with it, I would highly suggest you think about doing that now to save yourself $10/month on the product + on HD there is no shipping, so you save another $12/month for a $22 total savings.  More if you decide to sign up for the coach discount.  Check it out on my Shakeology page or watch Tony Horton’s silly little video on it and shoot me an email if you have any questions about it or want more info on the coach discount.

I’m sooo not getting sick…

Back home and back on the grind.  I am REALLY run down right now between the travel and work and our move and everything else – but I’m desperately trying to keep myself on the straight and narrow.  I was struggling when I first got back because I didn’t have time to cook on Sunday so that lead to ordering dinner a few more days then I should.  And I had a lot of fried chicken at home.  Probably not as much as I think I did – but considering I can’t even remember the last time I had fried chicken before Saturday, it just feels like a LOT.  I also had a lot of dessert.  See this is the thing right – I should have made a plate, sat down, and eaten.  Instead I nibbled while I was helping my mom host – putting food out, taking coats, ect.  There was a lot going on and I fell into my usual “take care of everything but me” personality.  Which is ok.  Seriously.  It is.  Because I’m out of it now.  I didn’t let it turn into a 2 week thing like I usually do where I eat everything under the sun and cry about how fat I’m getting.  I had a few off days and just like that I’m back.  I got back on exercise immediately and I got back on eating hardcore today.

In general though, I just really needed the last few nights to myself, and I took them.  I read and slept early and fought off this stupid sinus infection to the best of my ability.  I didn’t blog, although I did do some videos for Femistry – which I should do a whole post about soon actually, but I did catch up on sleep and do some serious thinking about life.  Trying to figure out can I quit my job and just workout for 4-6 months, then come back to the real world…but I think that isn’t going to happen.  Not unless someone orders about 1000 copies of INSANITY from me right quick, lol.   But seriously – after having to deal with the memorial and the family (Seriously if ONE more person asks me when I’m having a kid again I’m going to start swinging.  What exactly is the answer to that question?  tomorrow?  On November 18th 2014?  What is it?) and the travel and the go-go schedule once I got home with helping my mom cook and clean and then cooking breakfast and all that….I just was totally wiped out.  I still wish I could have taken some time off this week, but I had work things that I had to be here for.  I make no promises for Friday though…I’m really considering taking a day off to woosah a little bit.

I also should say – I started trying the Les Mills Combat workouts.  Oh my freaking god.  Okay so remember how I was desperate to do this program in January?  Well my order got completely screwed up so I didn’t get it until last week.  Anyway, I wasn’t going to even try it until I finished my hybrid…but um I totally gave in and tried it yesterday because of my total lack of motivation and I get giddy with new stuff.  And I did it again today.  It’s soooo good.  Like I’m already a super fan and now wanting to jump into 2 months of it.  I love this stuff…new workouts just make me excited.  Some of them end up a bust and some of them are awesome.  I need to make a page with my reviews of all the DVD programs I have tried and rate them somehow.  I’ve tried about all of them.  Some girls collect purses – I collect workouts.

Anyway, just wanted to touch base and share what’s going on with me.  I am still feeling under the weather a bit, but I’m hoping my Shakeology + exercise + gallons of water + sleep will all fix me soon.

Shakeology Cleanse Complete!

I completed my modified Shakeology cleanse yesterday.  I have to tell you – I feel so good!  I don’t eat a lot of junk food, but we had started eating out a lot and I started eating way too much dairy.  Cleansing all of that out of my body for a few days was exactly what the doctor ordered.  I slept so well last night and I woke up this morning feeling really good and my stomach wasn’t pissed off at me like it had been the end of last week.  I did lose 3 lbs, which surprised me because I didn’t really think I’d lose anything considering my normal diet is very similar to the cleanse (well take away 2 shakes and replace that with lunch).

It took me back to how good I felt when I finished the reset after 2 weeks of eating vegan.  I go back and forth with should I go vegan.  I don’t really want to…but I always feel so GOOD when I eat vegan for a few days or more that I feel like I should give it a good college try to see if anything longer than 2 weeks would be good for me.
The hubby wants to do the reset again very soon and obviously I’m so on board to do that.  I’m not sure when we will do it, perhaps something for March after we move.  I think if I do decide to go vegan for an extended period of time I can’t think of a better way to transition into it then the reset.  The hubs wants to do it again because he is not feeling very good.  He has not gone back to his old pre-reset eating ways at all, but I think he wants to do it again to push his habits more towards the good.  He and I went in different ways after the last reset.  I tried to maintain a similar to the reset but more food so I could support my exercise diet and he worked on replacing the foods he was eating with healthier options.  Organic granola instead of Captain Crunch cereal.  Organic cookies instead of oreos.  Now – yes this is better than his old diet.  He is eating healthier foods and I’m cooking healthier foods.  But at the end of the day, organic junk food is still junk food.  He knows he needs to make some changes and figures doing the reset again will help him break these habits.
I am running around like crazy today, as usual, so a short post today.  If you have any questions about the cleanse or the Ultimate Reset, drop me a comment 🙂
Also – Team Beachbody has Hip Hop Abs on sale for a crazy low price – $19.95 for the base and $39.90 for the deluxe (plus 25% off that price for coaches).  I definitely ordered mine today…if you are interested check it out on my site 🙂

Cleansing Breaths

Today, on a whim, I decided to do my own version of the shakeology cleanse.  I felt the need to modify the original cleanse because I still want to workout, so I did not want to drop my calories that low.  My goal here isn’t crazy fast weight loss, it’s just to kind of re-baseline from the Ultimate Reset.  In my ongoing processing of the changes to my life since the husband came back from working in TN, I realize that I need to kind of re-baseline.  Prior to shakeology and the reset I have done lots of short 2-3 day cleanses where you buy some kind of pre-mixed concentrate and have that every X hours for a few days.  That was my way to kind of reset when life was a little crazy and I need to get it together mentally.  Stop obsessing on food and start focusing on my diet du jour or just take a step back to get my brain together.  So this isn’t a new habit for me – just a new form.

The original Shakeology cleanse is pretty basic:
For three days eat the following:
Upon waking: 1 cup green tea
Breakfast: 1 serving shakeology with ice and water, no more than 1 cup of water
Snack: 1 piece of fruit
Lunch: 1 serving shakeology with ice and water, no more than 1 cup of water + 1 cup green tea
Snack: 1 serving shakeology with ice and water, no more than 1 cup of water
Dinner: Salad of 3 serving of greens and veggies, 4 oz protein (fish or poulry), and no more than 2 TBSP low fat dressing

I have never done this cleanse but people have really seen good results from it if you are looking for the basic cleanse recipe.  Mine looks just slightly different.  The main difference is that I am adding a lot more to my Shakeology blend and because of my schedule I’m moving things around a bit.

Breakfast: 1 serving vegan shakeology w/ almond milk, fruit, 1/3 packet vegan vanilla protein powder
Lunch: 1 serving vegan shakeology w/ almond milk, fruit, 1/3 packet vegan vanilla protein powder
Snack: 1 serving vegan shakeology w/ almond milk, fruit
Dinner: Vegan meal of my choice that is veggie based
Snack: Fruit bowl (I bought grapes, strawberries, and mangos)

I drink tea all the time anyway, so I’m drinking green tea and water and probably some other teas as well all day as I usually do.  I have a few teas that are very strong in flavor and don’t need honey for flavor so I will be drinking those this week.  I just need a little reset and I’m hoping this will give me that.  And if you wanted to try Shakeology, you might want to check out my giveaway…one day left to enter and you still have a good shot at winning!

My super hybrid is doing pretty great.  I was feeling really run down yesterday and missed a day, so tonight I’m planning on getting caught up since yesterday + today’s workouts total are only around an hour.  Then I get an off day tomorrow, which I need.  My grandma passed this weekend and I’m going home for the memorial services this weekend.  She has had Alzheimer’s for many many years, 15,  so I am happy that she is at peace now.  I’m doing ok, just ready to get home and give my mom and dad a huge hug.

Valentine’s Day Chocolates for You

It’s Valentine’s Day and while I am trying to stay away from chocolates in abundance, I’m hoping to share a little chocolate (and strawberry!) love with you 🙂

Today I’m hosting my first giveaway, vegan chocolate and tropical strawberry shakeology from my personal stash.  I use the bags mostly, but I keep the packets for travel.  I am giving away 6 packets total, 3 of each flavor.  I drink the vegan tropical strawberry about 5 out of 7 days a week on average.  It’s a good quick breakfast that keeps  me from craving junk which is everywhere in my office most days.  I know a lot of people are kind of sketch on it because of how it’s sold.  I was as well for a long time.  But I’m glad I took the leap because it really is a good product for me and I love the benefits of better digestion, reducing cravings, keeping me full, and my hair has never been healthier. I also haven’t gotten sick while everyone else around me has and I usually am the first woman down.  I know some other people don’t like it though and respect that fully.  I’m actually not the biggest fan of the chocolate, that’s my husband’s flavor of choice.  It’s too chocolatey to me, if that makes any sense lol.  I drink it for breakfast, so it’s just too much.  I did find a recipe on instagram for a thicker ice cream style chocolate shakeology and I’m going to try that to see if I like it as dessert.

Anyway, the prize!  It will last you 6 days at one a day, so you can go almost a week.

Enter using one of the options below and good luck!  You have a week and I’ll get these out right after a winner is determined 🙂 US and Canada only please 🙂

Good luck 🙂

Tenacious Health Challenge Group

As we get deeper into 2013 I already have had some friends drop off the healthy living resolutions they set for themselves and some others struggling to figure out what to do next.  So with that in mind, I am setting up a Tenacious Health Challenge Group that will start February 18th!

Why Tenacious Health??  Because tenacious means persistent, stubborn, and tough.  My Beachbody coaching team is called Team Tenacity so I wanted to play on words so here we are.  Point is that we are going to KICK butt together and get healthy.

Why Now?  Now because it’s a good time to get committed.  Starting a  program mid February takes you through to the spring time when the weather is nicer and it’s easier to be healthy because the sun is out more, the fruits are out in abundance, and the weather is nicer.  This is to help you through the dog days of winter and push you to start working on your health and wellness during a time where it’s easy to slip.  It’s also a good time to think about not just the exercise programs, but the Ultimate Reset as well.  I did the Reset, then rolled into exercising and I think my results were better for it.

What is it? The challenge centers around Beachbody’s challenge packs and 5 very committed challengers.  Any program you want + Shakeology + your commitment for the duration.  Challenge packs vary in price depending on what program you would like and can save you upwards of $70 on the program + shakeology.  There are ways to get discounts if you are interested in them so don’t let cost be a deterrent.  We will also enter the Beachbody Challenge.  What is the Beachbody Challenge?  It’s a contest that Beachbody runs that pays you for your awesome results for using their products.  I just entered my results from INSANITY and have my before pictures taken to submit after I finish P90x 🙂

Your coach?  Me 🙂  You get me as your coach for the whole of the program and beyond.  I’ll be here to answer questions or go find an answer if I don’t have it, to help the group stay focused, and to motivate when times are rough.  I will set up a place for us to communicate – email group or Facebook or Google Groups depending on what the people involved want and use for communication.  This isn’t just about a one on one coaching situation, it’s about a team moving forward and getting healthy together.  I’m a graduate of the Ultimate Reset and INSANITY programs and am currently working on P90x.  I have also used Turbo Fire, Turbo Jam, and Les Mills Pump, so I am familiar with a lot of the Beachbody programs and drink Shakeology pretty much every day, sometimes twice a day.  I drink my own kool aid because it tastes like weight loss, lol.

So if you are interested, please shoot me an email at healthyengineer@gmail.com and I can help you select a program or get signed up as a Coach if you are interested (this is the moolah saving option).  If you just want to check out what the challenge packs are in general look at my general site, my Ultimate Reset site, or my Shakeology site.

Hope you are interested in getting started on a healthier life this spring 🙂
